Oransiers Comments
I was concerned when Gideon from the battle re-enactment club came and discussed our double booking of the West Woods just as the first runners were registering.
As there weapons are lightweight and not dangerous I decided that there wasn't a hazard, but arranged for everyone to be warned, so that you didn't get any suprises.
As it turned out, once they had gone into the woods I didn't see any more of them. I hope you were all warned and were not put off by the other activity.
Planners Comments
Thank you to everyone who came to Westwood, I hope you enjoyed your runs! It was great to see so many of you there.
This was my first attempt at planning and due to the rapidly growing undergrowth, I decided to make the main challenge of the more technical courses come from route choice rather than flag hunting, with a few sections of short technical legs to keep you on your toes! Believe it or not, I tried to keep you away from the worst of the brambles (or at least always give you a plausible alternative route), although unfortunately it wasn’t possible to avoid them completely without seriously compromising the courses.
In retrospect, the light green was probably ~0.5 km too long, so apologies and I hope it didn’t detract from your enjoyment too much.
Many thanks to Peter Stewart for providing invaluable assistance as controller, organiser and mentor and thanks also to all the other volunteers whose hard work was much appreciated.
