Long time member of SOC Jack Hutchison passed away last Thursday 1st March.

Jack was a very active and successful member of the club for many years. Those who knew him will remember his unassuming but friendly disposition. Always willing to help at SOC events and very enthusiastic about our sport.

Jack was a regular companion travelling to events most weekends and on many a weekend away at major competitions.

Jack planned the 2009 November Classic on Bentley & Fritham and the following year in 2010 achieved probably his best performance in orienteering by winning the M65L class at the JK held in North Devon on Cookworthy Forest and Braunton Burrows. The difficult navigation on the sand dunes of Braunton well suited Jack's technical skills.

Only a couple of year later Jack had to retire from the sport due to ill health, but still kept fit walking and regularly cycling to his tennis club for a game of doubles.

I am privileged to call him a friend!

Our thoughts are with Jack's wife Mandy and family.

Jack spent his final days at the Oakhaven Hospice Lymington. His daughter Catherine Hutchison is running the 2018 London Marathon in his memory. Raising funds for Oakhaven Hospice. If you would like to sponsor Catherine she has a page on the Just Giving website or you can donate to Oakhaven Hospice direct and mention Jack.
