Wessex Night League Marchwood results

Comments from Organiser/PLanner Stuart Southwick. This is only my second time planning on my own with no help from the older more experienced planners I normally collaborate with like Robin Smith.

The penultimate Wessex Night League Event at Marchwood this Saturday saw 29 runners, which was a good turn out considering the extreme weather conditions over the last week or so. I kept a very close eye on the conditions and predicted right with the snow almost melted and the Benign mild conditions. Some great running still battling it out to the bitter end, Peter Suba was at the top with full points and just under 3 mins to spare, next was Dan Cole and Mike Frizzell. Thanks to all competitors for participating. Look forward to Monday’s final event of the league at Kings and Queens.

Comments from Gavin Clegg.
With just the one race left the league winners are still to be decide in all but the Open Men. Congratulations to Peter Suba, who after many years of just being pipped, has finally come away with the title. Nine wins in the 15 races he ran deserves the award. Dan and Alan pushed him hard all the way. On the head to heads its 6 to Peter, 4 to Dan and 3 tied. Alan has been there or there abouts and for a relative newcomer has excelled in coming 3rd. In the Ladies Open, Tereza, by dint of an excellent run at Marchwood, has one hand on the Trophy. Becca or Jo could still win but would need scores of 475 and 477 respectively on Monday night.

In the Handicap: None of the top three ladies competed at Marchwood. The consequence of this is that the title is between Charlotte and Carolyn. Charlotte has to be favourite. Carolyn needs a 786 or better, something she achieved at Gillingham and Boscombe, so all is not lost. Mary moved 21 points closed to Jane in third and needs a further 24 points to move into the medal places. As I predicted; Chris Branford has jumped right into the mix and is now lying second. An excellent run at Marchwood by Mike Frizzell has leapfrogged him above both Robin and Chris. Again, all to play for on Monday night.
