Sunny Stoke Park

By Sam Massey , 18 April, 2010

The Summer Series got off to a superbly Sunny start at Stoke Park on Saturday. It was great to see plenty of new faces (many of them even smiling after their run!). Simon put on a set of courses for all ages and abilities and has set a great benchmark for the rest of the events in the series to follow.

You dont have to wait long for your next local Orienteering fix, as Summer Series Event 2 is at Southampton Common this Saturday 24th April. More details will appear on the Event page in the next few days. There is free parking for up to 4 hours and also a family friendly pub (The Cowherds) located in the map too.

Dave Stubbs (BKO)

Profile picture for user Kevin Bracher
By Kevin Bracher , 13 April, 2010

In case you had not already heard, Dave Stubbs (BKO) collapsed and died
whilst running at the JK Sprint, on Good Friday.

Dave was well known and respected as a Grade 1 Controller and made
significant contributions to the sport over many years. Many SOC members
have worked with Dave at one or more of a number of major events
including the 1999 World Championships. The sport has lost a fine
competitor and official with his passing. Our sympathies go out to Katy.

Katy has asked us to pass on the following details:

Dave's funeral will be on Friday 23 April at 14:15, at Easthampstead
Park Crematorium, Bracknell. Katy has asked for no flowers. If anyone
wishes to give something then Katy would like donations to be made to
Cancer Research UK. Cheques payable to Cancer Research UK can be sent
to either the funeral directors; Miles and Daughters. Isabella House,
498a Reading Road, Winnersh, Berks, RG41 5EX, or to Katy Stubbs at 3
Kelburne Close, Winnersh Berks, RG41 5JG.

Katy would welcome friends afterwards at her house, but would appreciate
knowing in advance if you would like to come back (katystubbs [at] f2s.com (katystubbs[at]f2s[dot]com)).
