The fourth event in the 2022 Spring/Summer SOC MapRun League.

The event will be available in the app from Friday 6 May 2022. For your run to count in the League, you must submit your results by the end of Thursday 19 May 2022. After that, you can still have a go at the course but it won't count for the League.

UK > Find Your Way > FYW South Hants > FYW SOC League 2022

Location: Starting and finishing near the car park off St Vigor Way, Colden Common, SO21 1UU: 50°59'46.9"N 1°19'15.7"W 50.996360, -1.321015

Grid ref: SU477222. What3Words: ///digit.path.giant

Format: 45 minutes, 33 controls. Points are 10, 20, or 30 per control: 10 points for 1 - 10, 20 points for 11 to 20, and 30 points for 21 to 33, for a maximum of 690 points. There is a penalty of 10 points per minute late back or part thereof.

MapRun app: Use the new MapRun6 app. Do not use the original MapRun app as it does not understand the score format. When navigating to the event, select UK > Find Your Way > FYW South Hants > FYW SOC League 2022 or use this link on your phone.  See the
MapRun website for guidance on configuring your phone.

Map: The map is a 1:7500 OpenOrienteeringMap. There are both ‘stick’ and ‘pseudo’ maps available and the PDFs can be downloaded below. It may be beneficial to take both maps.

Terrain: The course is around the residential area, primarily on paths and quiet roads. There are some open and wooded areas that may be muddy.

Safety: There are lots of road crossings. Some control sites will require you to cross the B3354 along the eastern side of the area, but there are 4 convenient pedestrian crossing islands or traffic light controlled crossing points along that road. There is one control site to the south of Church Lane (which otherwise forms the southern boundary of the course), but there is a convenient crossing point for this too. All these recommended crossing points are marked on the map. The sections of road on the south western edges of the course area are not safe and have been marked out of bounds – the course has been designed so that there shouldn’t be any temptation to use these sections. Under 16's should be accompanied by an adult.

Social: Thursday 19 May 2022 at The Rising Sun pub, 27 Spring Lane, Colden Common, Winchester SO21 1SB, from 7.30pm.  The pub is a few minutes' walk from the start/finish, close to control 21.
