2022 Spring League 07 - Otterbourne

The seventh event in the 2022 Spring/Summer SOC MapRun League.

The event will be available in the app from Friday 17 June 2022. For your run to count in the League, you must submit your results by the end of Thursday 30 June 2022. After that, you can still have a go at the course but it won't count for the League.

Location: Starting and finishing on the Green at Otterbourne Hill, SO21 2HW: Grid ref: SU454223. What3Words: hoping.cattle.gravel

Format: 45 minutes, 35 controls. Points are 10, 20, or 30 per control: 10 points for 1 - 10, 20 points for 11 to 20, 30 points for 21 to 30, and 40 points for 31 to 35, for a maximum of 800 points. There is a penalty of 10 points per minute late back or part thereof.

MapRun app: Use the new MapRun6 app. Do not use the original MapRun app as it does not understand the score format. Map: The map is a 1:7500 OpenOrienteeringMap. There are both ‘stick’ and ‘pseudo’ maps available and the PDF’s can be downloaded below. It may be beneficial to take both maps.

Terrain: The course is around mixed residential, open and wooded areas. Open and wooded areas may be muddy.

Safety: There are a number of road crossings, whilst not compulsory, you are advised to cross at the pedestrian crossing or one of the many crossing islands. Some control sites will require you to use mapped crossing points. These are situated within easy reach of the control sites. Some routes may take you near water courses and ponds/lakes, take care navigating these areas. Under 16's should be accompanied by an adult. All fences are not to be climbed whether marked on the map or not – this also includes squeezing through holes in fences!
