British Schools Orienteering Champs

Profile picture for user Dave Currie
By Dave Currie , 18 November, 2019

On Sunday the Currie family headed up the M3 to Black Park, near Slough, for the British Schools Orienteering Association Championships. The courses are typically easier than the children would normally expect to run for their age class. Duncan whizzed round his white course in 11 minutes and Emma taking just a little longer for her yellow. With most of the area out of bounds, we went for a walk around the lake and had some lunch whilst waiting for the rest of the field to finish. Unfortunately, Duncan was just pushed out of the medals to finish fourth with Emma coming in a creditable ninth. It was great to see so many children participating in the event with SYO bringing down two coachloads from schools in their area!

Those with sharp eyes may read the "No access for filming vehicles" sign in the background. Black Park is adjacent to Pinewood Studios and has featured in many films over the years from the Hammer Horror films to Harry Potter and Captain America. Unfortunately, the delayed departure of the most recent film set led to some last-minute changes which weren't reflected in the control descriptions and a number of controls had to be voided. Full results and more photos are available.
