2010 Holiday O

By Sam Massey , 15 January, 2010

Its time to start looking ahead to the multi-day Orienteering Season. You'll find many opportunities for Orienteering in many different countries over the year ahead. Theres a full list in the current CompassSport magazine, but heres a few to think about whilst you consider your holiday planning.

Feb 20th: Southern Championships, Forest of Dean - 3 hours drive, Long and Middle distance races

April 2nd: JK,  Devon - 3 Hours drive, great location, with Braunton/Croyde making an obvious accommodation option, surfing and beaches on your doorstep.

May 1st: BOC + BAOC Middle distance on Bank Holiday Mon, Cannock Chase - 2 hours drive, with 3 events available this year due to incorporating the Bank Holiday

August Week1: World Masters OC, Neuchatel, Switzerland - Sprint and Long Races including Open classes for those not having yet reached 'Masters' status.

August Week 4: Lakes 5 Days - 5 hours drive, with the scenery and beer this great, it really doesnt matter how the Orienteering goes!...and pop into the White Rose on the way home if you need more

Booking early not only gives discounted O Entry, but Ferry/Chunnel is cheaper and choice of Accommodation is usually wider. Hope to see some of you at the above events.

Compass Sport Cup - SOC Competitors & Helpers

By Philip Eeles , 7 January, 2010

This item contains a last call for SOC runners, information on subsidised entry fees and helpers details.

SOC Competitors: If you have not yet done so please send your details to Jane Morgan jane [at] morgantj.fsnet.co.uk (jane[at]morgantj[dot]fsnet[dot]co[dot]uk) by Sunday 10th Jan at the latest.

The club has agreed to subsidise entries for SOC members, so even more incentive to compete - Adult fees reduced by half to £3 and Juniors are free (note EMIT Hire stays at Adults £1 Juniors free). Please pay for your entry at Enquiries on the day.

SOC Helpers: It's easiest for me to assume that all those entered would also help in some capacity.

Please would you let me (Philip Eeles P.Eeles [at] btinternet.com (P[dot]Eeles[at]btinternet[dot]com) 01425 652843) know:

  • whether you would rather help early / run late or run early / help late
  • if there are particular tasks you would prefer
  • or if you cannot help on this occasion

There may also be members not running who would be willing to help - please let me know if this is you.

Once our entry list and start times are finalised I will allocate duties and communicate out the final helpers details by Sunday 17th Jan.

Check the event listing for more information and Final Details for this event will be posted on or soon after 14th Jan

Thank you

Philip Eeles
